Getting Your Licence

The Foundation Licence is your first step into amateur radio, the recommended 12 hours training by our instructors undertake individual and groups to insure you have the very best chance of passing the foundation exam

You will need the book Foundation Licence Now  obtainable from the RSGB before your training commences, 

 

The Yeovil Amateur Radio Club meets at the Red Cross Centre, Grove Ave, Yeovil on Thursdays and is a registered exam centre for the Foundation, Intermediate, and the Advanced Licence 

 

 

Frequently ask questions

Q. What is the age limit to take the exam  A. There is no age limit for the Foundation Exam.
Q. Do I need to join the club before my traning starts A. No, but as a member you benefit more from its facilities on offer. 
Q. Can I use a transmitter before I pass my foundation exam A. You can only use a transmitter under instruction within your training
Q. How many questions will there be on the exam  A. There are 25 questions on the exam you need 18 to pass.
Q. How much does the course cost A The course is free, the R.S.G.B. charges £20 for the exam papers   
Q. I don't feel ready for the exam can I get more training A. Yes, your instructor will continue your training, he will know when your ready  
Q. When can I start  my training A. Courses are run regularly, speak to your instructor. 
Q. I am partially sighted will it affect my training A. Special provisions for partially and non sighted are available on request.
